At the Don Garci or Ardixarra house, in addition to getting a lot of tourism information about Segura, Goierri and the Aizkorpe valley, visitors can see the medieval interpretation centre located in this unique building. You can travel to the medieval Basque Country through the exhibition and audiovisual projections.
This building, located in one of the most beautiful historic city centres in the Basque Country, is one of very few preserved examples of urban architecture where a house and workshop are united. It’s a fine example of 16th century architecture and it has an impressive wood facade. There’s nothing like it anywhere in Gipuzkoa!
The name Don Garci comes from the beneficiary priest García Jáuregui, who lived in the early 17th century. The term Ardixarra (old sheep), on the other hand, was the epithet of a former tenant.
The house was studied by Alberto Santana and, thanks to him, we can locate its chronology on the threshold between the end of the middles ages and the start of the modern era.
