HISTORIC - ARTISTIC MONUMENT 16th CENTURY – EUSKAL GOTIKOA
It is a unique church that can be considered a model of the style known as Basque Gothic. Some of its characteristics include: it is a hall church with three naves of equal height, it has vaults with complex ribs and columns with attic bases, cylindrical shafts and Doric capitals.
The masters Errestaburu, Armendia and Juan de Lizarazu were in charge of executing the most important work.

The work is dedicated to the Assumption surrounded by the twelve apostles. It was built thanks to the generosity of Martín Lardizabal y Elortza. His titles included Mayor of Madrid and member of His Majesty’s Council, and he was on the Council of the Indies. Alkizarra Miguel de Irazusta was the draughtsman. His disciple Diego Martínez de Arce continued after his death. The sculpture group, made up of 42 images, was executed by the best sculptor of the times, Luis Salvador Carmona, and it was finished in 1749 by Manuel de Alquizalete.
