The hermitage is at the foot of mount Unamendi (or colloquially Santa Barbara), at 623 metres.
Until the mid 19th century, a sacristan and her husband lived in the adjacent shack and they prepared the worship services.
It was renovated in the 18th century, and residents of the Kortaberri neighbourhood are the caretakers.
The feast day of this hermitage is celebrated with a mass followed by a mean on Ascension day.
It’s traditional to climb the mountain on 31 December and start the day singing with an apéritif.
