End of 17th cantury - Beginning of 19th century

Of the five gates Segura has had, the Zerain gate is the best conserved, even though it has had some modifications. This is the only gate with a west facing entrance, on the lower alley across from the Jauregi Gate. From there, you can reach the Zerain Gate over the Zubiaundi bridge (which can be translated as large bridge). The original gate from the 17th century has changed a lot because of the adaptations of the adjacent building. The opening was expanded and the dramatically flared false embrasures were added, that have more symbolic value than military. The expansion was motivated by the expansion of the adjacent house over the gate to gain more usable space.
In the mid 19th century, the owner of the house renovated it again, causing new changes to the Zerain Gate, such as new openings, a roof with embrasures, etc.
